Study Plans:SSP07-WRH30106- CERT III IN HAIRDRESSING - To achieve S489 Certificate III in Hairdressing - WRH30106, a total of 29 units of competency must be completed. This comprises: - 23 core units - 1 compulsory elective - 5 elective units

 -About This Course
This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to cut hair using clippers or scissors, to shampoo, condition and rinse hair and dry and style hair using brushes, combs, rollers and other equipment. You will also learn skills to operate a cash register and computer, perform reception duties such as answering telephone calls and making appointments and write up client record cards.

Training for indentured Apprentices in Certificate III in Hairdressing.  Apprentices attend classes one day per week or fortnight.

Students achieving Certificate III in Hairdressing have the opportunity to work all around the world. In hairdessing salons, or on cruise ships,  in theatre, television, do the hair of famous actors on movies sets, or be a hairstylist for magazine photo shoots. You could be a technician for a hair product company or go onto become a lecturer, facilitator, trainer, work place assessor or own your salon. Live your dream.

    Completion of higher level TAFE qualifications (Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma) can sometimes provide an alternative pathway to university.

    TAFE graduates who gain entrance to university may qualify for advanced standing which can save them up to 12 months of the relevant degree.

    Selection Criteria apply to some qualifications.

    The Selection Criteria are based on previous education and training, life experience and paid and unpaid work experience.
     -Previous Studies Recognition

    The Units of Competency listed in this brochure are those offered by this college.

    If you have successfully completed any units in this qualification with another Registered Training Organisation, the college may recognise this study as partial completion of this qualification.

    Alternative units may be available or you may be eligible for recognition of other training or experience. Discuss these options with the course coordinator.

    Not all colleges offer the same elective units.

     -Skills Recognition

    Skills recognition is a formal assessment process which acknowledges the skills, knowledge and competencies that you have gained through work, informal training and life experience. You will be asked to provide evidence that you have the skills and knowledge required by a set of national competency standards.

    If you are successful, you will be given credit towards the achievement of a nationally recognised qualification. This may mean that you do not have to study to receive the qualification, or that you have fewer units to complete.

    Contact the course coordinator if you think you may be eligible. Fees are charged for Skills Recognition.

     -Fees Summary

    There are three types of fees which are paid each semester at the time of enrolling. Full-time fees range between $450 and $900 per semester, although Maritime qualifications incur higher fees.

    There is no enrolment fee for 2009 courses but course fee is made up of “tuition fee & resource fee”.

    Maximum tuition fee is $570.00 (non-concession, per semester) or

    Maximum tuition fee is $285.00 (concession, per semester

    Various resource fees apply according to the selected courses.

     Access & Bridging courses incur a $25 flat fee plus resource fee per semester.


    Please note:
    - There may also be textbooks, equipment or materials to purchase.
    - There are a number of ways to qualify for the concession rate. Please contact the college if you think you are eligible.
    - There is a fees instalment plan/fees payment plan for students with valid concession or evidence of financial hardship.
    - There are different fee arrangements for International students and Fee for Service training.

     TAFE students do not pay HECS fees.

     -About Apprenticeships & Traineeships

    This qualification is available as an Apprenticeship.

    Apprenticeships
    An apprenticeship involves full time work with an employer who provides an opportunity to learn all aspects of a trade. This is a structured program for a fixed period of time and while you learn on the job, you also attend off the job training at a TAFEWA college or another registered training provider.

    Some of the benefits of an Apprenticeship are that you can:

    • Learn on the job skills combined with off the job training;

    Application for Award
    When you have completed your course or qualification, you will need to fill out an Application for Award so that you can receive your qualification. The Application for Award form is available from your lecturer and the Information Counter at any of our ten campuses. Enrolled students can download a copy from the Student portal which is accessed through the Challenger TAFE website http://www.challengertafe.wa.edu.au/ .

    Academic Records
    Academic Records are printed out after every term for the units you have completed and are posted to the address currently on the College database.

    This is a training program that leads to the completion of the Haidressing Training Package WRH06 qualification WRH30106. This qualification is designed to reflect the role of employees who perform a range of skilled operations in the industry sector with the need to apply discretion and judgement and some multi-skilling.
